Since its below zero at the moment here and doing pretty much anything outside of the house is out of the question, I thought I’d sit down and do some maintenance on my computer and storage devices. As I started to organize and put things into long term storage (2017 and prior), I decided to actually take a look at the 2018 folder and let you all in on what kind of a crazy year it was.
So, overall size of the folder is 1.1 Terabytes. To some of you that may not mean a lot so let me put it in some other terms. If you used old floppy disks, the smaller hard plastic ones were 1.44 Megabytes. So to put this in perspective, JUST the 2018 folder would need 829,727 floppy disks. It makes me amazingly grateful that storage has evolved since “the old days”.
So of course sports dominated the year, covering field hockey, volleyball, baseball, football, basketball, lacrosse and others. Each sport teaches me something new about myself and about how to best capture the best moments. While baseball is still my favorite sport by far, football and lacrosse were probably the two others that inspired me most this year. Going on the road with the GF Varsity Football team was amazing and got me to places I never thought I’d get to. Lacrosse surprised me. I had a basic understanding of the game but I had no idea how addictive shooting it could be. Its fast paced and constantly changing.
There were a lot of non sports related moments though as well. I ended up doing senior pictures for two amazing young men, did a solo model shoot for a friend, an amazing maternity/birth announcement/engagement shoot, and a great family shoot. Like with the sports shoots, each one of these has taught me a lot about not only photography but about interacting with friends, family and the community overall.
I was able to capture a few charity events and really hope to continue to do them in the future. I love my community and the way they have embraced me, my family, and the business. I love being able to help an organization gain visibility and help them expand the reach of their abilities.
So what does 2019 have in store? I’m not fully sure. Sports have already been a big part. I’m traveling to more schools and capturing the memories for even more parents and relatives outside of my community. Well, in reality, as I go to each new school, they become part of my community. I’ve loved every event I have been at and can’t wait to see people the next time. I am hopeful to do more senior picture shoots this year as well as model work. I have a photography seminar next weekend that will help me achieve these goals. I am so excited. I really can’t wait.
